Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival at Florence. Transfer to the middle age tower residence in the beautiful historical centre of Prato. Prato has a lot of history and few tourists because everybody goes to visit Florence. You will have the opportunity to see the authentic life of a historical town outside the massive tourism. We will have a welcome Aperitivo at the Medieval Tower all together with my family!
Day 2
We will visit the amazing Florence centre with our favorite guide Antonella. We will enter in the Uffizi Museum to admire beautiful paintings of Brunelleschi, Michelangelo… but save some energy for the night! Because during the evening, in Prato, there will be the medieval festival of the town where you will be dunk in the past with flag-wavers, drums, trumpets and fireworks.
Day 3
We will transfer to the south of Tuscany, in the authentic Val d’Orcia countryside. We will drive on the ancient Via Francigena route. This is a medieval pilgrim route, with unique corners and panoramic views. We will have a perfect lunch stop at an historical hidden corner that you will discover with us. We will sleep inside a restored historical castle “Spedaletto” where historical personalities slept in the past centuries, such as the Pope Pio II and the king Carlo D’Angio.
Day 4
We will have some relax in the etruscan thermal bath of Bagno Vignoni. This historical village was known since the Etruscan (before the Romans) era because of the natural hot springs. In the afternoon we will visit the lovely renaissance Pienza, immersed inside the typical tuscan countryside. And for dinner, Pizza for everybody!
Day 5
We will have a perfect wine tasting moment with the historical Biondi Santi family to enter inside the wine atmosphere. This family invented the Brunello of Montalcino wine, unique and excellent wine of this area and will open its canteen for us. In the afternoon we will drive to our new country estate where we will have a bike ride inside the Natural Park. In the evening we have a perfect dinner in the classic Italian family tradition with Franco and Umberta, the owners of the estate.
  • Orgiaglia
  • Included: Breakfast in Spedaletto and Dinner in Orgiaglia
Day 6
We will visit San Gimignano and we will take part of a fun treasure hunting game, discovering the unique and medieval corners of this special village full of old towers at the top of the hill. In the afternoon we will have a cooking lesson with Umberta where we will learn to cook homemade pasta…and then, if you are good cooks we will eat it for dinner!
  • Orgiaglia
  • Included: Breakfast and Dinner in Orgiaglia
Day 7
This will be the special day of our trip because we will take part of the grape harvest inside Genuino’s and Claudia’s family farm, near Volterra. We will spend all day inside this unique winery: we will learn the Tuscan wine process, visit the canteen, try the wines they produce and, most important of everything, we will have a big lunch with all the family. What‘s more important that good friends and good wine?
  • Orgiaglia
  • Included: Breakfast and Dinner in Orgiaglia, Lunch in the winery
Day 8
We will visit Siena. Our favourite guide will explain us about this important town at the top of the hill. We will enter inside Siena’s Cathedral, the most beautiful cathedral I have ever seen! In this time of the year they will show us the floors (normally covered to preserve them) and we will accede at a special part of the cathedral where few people can enter: the inside roof part. From the top we will have a unique point from the ceiling. In the evening we will have the last dinner all together with Franco and Umberta.
  • Orgiaglia
  • Included: Breakfast and Dinner in Orgiaglia
Day 9
We will have a transfer service to bring you to Florence (either to the Airport or to the train station). We will wave you goodbye and thank you for having traveled with us!

Torre degli Ammannati

We will have the opportunity to live inside this perfectly restored middle age tower. We will enjoy its comfortable and elegant apartments with original architectural elements of the middle age. Laura and Piero, the owners of the tower, will welcome us to their special house, right in the historical center of Prato. Grancia di Spedaletto

Many important people such as Carlo D’Angio and the Pope Pio II rested at the Castle La Grancia di Spedaletto during their trip to Rome.

Nowadays, the Carletti family is the owner of the Castle and the farm. They will host us in their elegant double rooms for a few days in this peaceful and quiet place surrounded by 40 hectares of vineyards and olive oil trees.

Orgiaglia

Franco and Umberta will welcome us to their ancient farm in the middle of the beautiful Tuscan countryside between Siena, Volterra and San Gimignano. We will certainly be regenerated after our daily explorations by their warm hospitality, authentic cuisine and Chianti wine. Friendship, good laughter and a great company will help us get away from the stress of it all – all in a magical atmosphere.

They will host us in their elegant, recently restored double rooms. You will be mesmerized by the traditionally looking rooms while at the same time everything is eco-friendly (the hot water comes from solar thermal plants).

Activities

Cooking class

Umberta and Franco have a big fireplace where we can cook the “Pici”. We will prepare the homemade Pici pasta and the Pici sauce, following the best Tuscany family tradition. We will get our hands dirty with flour, water and dough to produce our handmade Pici.

Pasta

Grape harvest

We will harvest the grapes with Claudia, Genuino and their friends at their family vineyards. This will be a special moment because we will take part of the focus ritual in Tuscany: the wine! After the harvest we will learn the wine process in the cave, we will try some good wine and we will have a big family lunch at the field with all local product of the Genuino farm and the surrounding farms. This will be a unique moment with the family.
