Grape Harvest

We will harvest grapes in a special place where natural beauty, passion for excellent quality wine and family atmospheres get mixed. Podere Marcampo is the perfect unique corner to live the Grape Harvest, in Italian we say “Vendemmia”. The propriety is surrounded by the fabulous Volterra Balze hills, typical of the area. This amazing family estate is managed by Claudia and her father Genuino. They love to produce high quality wine, in fact they received many awards.

Medieval Festival

The ancient and famous Prato Festival culminates on the September 8th, the day of the Virgin Mary, to remember a tradition that sinks its roots in the Middle Ages and give us our town identity. Like the majority part of the Italian festivals, it is a public and religious ceremony at the same time.

Cycling on the Natural Park

For half day we will discover on our bikes the marvels of the Berignone – Tatti Natural Reserve around the Orgiaglia estate. We will cycle on the historic roads of the area, along olive fields, oak woods and breath-taking panorama. The area is reach of tracks because in the pass there were a lot of inhabitants.

Siena Cathedral

The Siena Cathedral (in Italian “Duomo di Siena”) is a medieval church in Siena, Tuscany Italy and one of my favorite churches in the world. We will visit it in the best period of the year: when they exceptionally open the floor parts to the visitors, normally closed to preserve them from the use.

Uffizi Gallery

The Uffizi Gallery is one of the oldest and most famous art museum gallery in the world. It is a unique museum for its history, the paintings and sculptures it collects. The building was created by Vasari to host the Government offices of Cosimo de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1560. For that reason they called it “Uffizi”: it comes from “Office”.

Thermal baths in Bagno Vignoni

We will enjoy and relax in the beautiful Natural hot springs of Bagno Vignoni. These waters come from the aquifer underground of volcanic origins and they are rich in salts, calcium, iron carbonates, sulfates, sodium and magnesium. These thermal baths were knew since the Roman and Etruscan times, because, also at that time, they were good to heal the bones diseases, mucous membranes and to tone up the skin. Get ready to relax!

Wine Cellar

We will visit the Biondi Santi’s family and its wine cellar based in Montalcino, Tuscany Italy. Montalcino is a little village in the Tuscany countryside know all over the world for his unique delicious wine: the Brunello di Montalcino wine. The family is not only just one of the producer of the Brunello di Montalcino wine: they are the inventors of this wine from the Sangiovese vineyard.

Cookery

We will cook with Umberta at the BioAgriturismo Orgiaglia. Umberta will teach us how to cook the typical Pasta from Siena: the “Pici”.

There, we will have a big fireplace to cook the “Pici”, following the grandmother tradition. We will prepare the homemade pasta and the sauce, dirtying our hands with flour, water and dough. About the sauce, Pici are eaten with a variety of sauces, such as spicy garlic tomato sauce, Pecorino cheese, Porcini mushrooms, wild boar, duck, hare, breadcrumbs or Bolognesa. Let’s choose our Pici sausage version!

Aperitivo time

We will have an Aperitivo welcome dinner all together to explore and enjoy this Italian informal way of eating with friends. We will take our drinks inside the medieval tower with me and my family.

The Aperitivo is a social ritual in Italy. In Tuscany it has turned into a real dinner. All the situation are good here to eat with Italians!

The Prato Cathedral (in Italian “Duomo di Prato”) has just been restored and boasts beautiful frescoes of Filippino and Filippo Lippi, Renascence painters lived in Prato and knew for their works exposed at the Uffizi Museum in Florence.
